2025 Eucris Lathering Challenge

As you may have noticed (or not) the hopeful start date of April 1st has come and gone.

But, soap is in the mail to all of the other participants. I am hopeful that we will be able to start the challenge sometime this week.

Some background on the Eucris Scent
IMG_0433.jpeg

First launched in 1912 (and apparently never updated since), Eucris is a Masculine Chypre.

Top notes are Black Currant, Caraway and Coriander; middle notes are Jasmine and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Oakmoss, Sandalwood and Musk.

I (and my wife thankfully) both enjoy the fragrance.

Congrats Dave on the first documented attempt. It appears to be about as I expected. I would have thought a long-standing product that doesn’t perform would have been fixed by now. I’m anticipating my first lather will mirror your results as a baseline. What is your water like? (Hard/soft)

Mine has arrived.....as Eric's tracking confirmed. It was rather warm in the mailbox...so I was worried that I might have a puddle of goo inside the box. But to my surprise...it was still solid. Take that unbearable sun.

Last night (Sunday night) I dropped the puck chunk into a bowl and soaked it overnight. Well ...this morning I had interesting results from that experiment.....

Yes ...that's after I drained off the water. The puck chunk seems to have excreted one of its ingredients in the form of a goo-like substance. But it's still holding its puck chunk shape.....so I'm not sure what's happening. I can only hope that it's not sentient and is now attacking my cats or drinking my beer.

I was (of course) reluctant to use it to shave with.

I'm expecting it to have dried by the time I return home today. It's supposed to get up to the mid 80's so there should be less ...goo...or perhaps it will have done something even more hideous. We shall see.

But I will shave with it tomorrow. So I am doing this challenge correctly (nice video Bougie......I'm mailing you Dora the Explorer bandaids).

Agree with KJ, this soap is glycerin based. I would recommend you keep that stuff in the bowl for slickness. Or perhaps the goo is the problem?

I may try a shave with just the goo (somewhere Bougie is peeing himself with laughter). This challenge may get very odd.

And who would have thought that that much glycerin would come out of such a small puck chunk? Imagine what would have come out of a whole puck.

The producers could’ve probably seen that one coming.

Here’s the description from the Geo F Trumper website

“Our glycerine based Eucris Hard Shaving Soap with the scent of of Eucris EDT.”

Many large-scale commercial soap makers remove much of the glycerin from their soap. They sell it back to the beauty community. And if you have ever used a Triple Milled shave soap, the glycerin is removed, because the glycerin will gum up the milling equipment.

Dude, you confused me and B Dave. Back in the golden days of accountability you would have been beheaded for that!
