Can we live like this forever? Of course not. But wanting to return to business as usual before COVID doesn’t seem too realistic either. I think we’d be making more progress if everyone was on board with trying to live with COVID instead of wanting to act like it’s all over.
I agree but it goes both ways. Not only live like it is all over but also realize we still need to live. We may have to give up self serve buffets but we also have to be able to visit grandparents and make a living.

Very true. But we won't be getting anywhere when there are large segments of the population who can't see fit to even take the most basic precautions and instead prefer to put everyone else at risk. We can't have it both ways.

I probably come across as more of a rebel than I am. My family wears masks when we are out, we strive to keep social distancing out of respect of others. Our church has gone to several services to comply with our governors mandates. I deliver meals to shut ins and take take every precaution to comply with all CDC rules.

The view from my house is different then some. In Maine we have a total of 390 active cases (and dropping) we have 17 hospitalized, 7 in ICU and 3 on ventilators. These numbers are for the whole state. I understand that most of the country isn't in my position. But it does rub me wrong when other people in other states call me selfish or that I'm going to kill your grandma thousands of miles away if I take my daughter to the park.

I haven't posted in this thread much because I feel a certain view point is accepted and if you aren't 100% in line then you are pounced on.

Sometimes I think we need to remember that when someone is looking at the glass have empty and someone else is looking at the glass half full, that we are all looking at the same glass.

I'll shut up now and go back into my corner.

@The Monkey while this whole thing has been frustrating I for one like you am glad that each area gets to decide how to handle this pandemic because EACH corner of the country and yes even the world is different. Blanket statements or blanket regulations would not work. The whole situation sucks. But what's happening in one state should not effect my city. Just like it would be irrational for Florida to say, "look how few cases Maine has, that means we can open everything up and go back to normal!" IT doesn't work that way, and shouldn't work the other way either.

Thanks for your post!

No. Don't go into your corner. I think what I have been remiss in mentioning through most of my rants is that the Covid situation is not the same everywhere in the country. I for one am not calling for a universal approach for every place in the country. But what I do think is important that while the relative number of cases in Maine is small compared to places like Florida, Maine's population is also much smaller than Florida's. More importantly, the health care system of hospitals is much different given how rural much of Maine is. Which also means that if Maine saw a spike in cases it would likely tax the health system which could be a disaster. In other words, why not continue to do what we've been doing thus far with social distancing and masks. The negative impact on the population of this approach is miniscule.

i don't think anyone is calling you selfish.. Every area is different and its great that some areas of our country can get back to a more "normal" way of life.... Some or actually most of the country isn't that lucky. What works in one area will Not work in others. We cant take a blanket approach to this thing and say okay everyone everywhere this is how its gonna be. I personally think rules and regulations needs to be area specific.. I don't agree with people thinking that the whole country needs to open back up because one place has their numbers under control ( not meaning you ).. the US board of Education saying that the whole country needs to prepare for basically a regular school year and trying to force All states to "toe the line" and open is just wrong.... I think its wrong and reckless.

@The Monkey one of the problems is small numbers turn into big numbers because behaviors or conditions allow it. My prayer for YOU and your community is that you continue to be relatively safe by comparison and continue to be able to "enjoy" the freedom of movement etc you are able to enjoy now.

I don't know if i mentioned it here or not but this will be my son's 2nd year as a special education teacher, he was forced to adapt (as were his peers and students) to distance teaching during his first year of teaching. He recently got word they will be starting school in 3 weeks (might delay a week) remotely because his school district currently has 20+ students with confirmed COVID and several teachers are positive as well...and the district does not have the resources to distance and provide masks etc. He and his assistant have been able to review individual student files, craft lesson plans and approaches and get prepared pretty quickly so he feels pretty good about his ability to get going. Obviously, being special education he is concerned about the lack of ability to meet and assess , and worries about the things he won't SEE throughout the day. As a family with some ongoing medical concerns at home WE are happy to be able to postpone his immersion into the world after having been able to successfully isolate for so long, because his exposure would mean he would not be able to come to our house again for quite some time and his ability to consider starting a family of his own would remain on pause. I don't mean this to sound as cold and harsh as it will sound but I am very aware of the type of people who parent the children that attend his school and I will never trust those parents to keep my son safe at school. I think this is the nagging little thought that has been making everyone so hesitant to open the schools. I also think this nagging little thought is WHY some schools are opening, the leaders have these same thoughts and feel guilty for having them. In OUR school districts case the superintendent unilateral made the decision to not open the classrooms THEN notified the public and teachers (via the union) at the same time, the school board was made aware when the union called them. Bold move on his part, got some push back from a couple high profile people but his reasoning was SUPER sound.

I have to admit, until the superintendent included in his announcement that a particular number of students and staff were currently positive I had never even given that a thought. Our local area doesn't have a very large amount of cases but schools are the center of the community, I guess it makes sense a representative number of teachers and students would always be positive. Until his announcement, I had convinced myself "school" was my son's classroom and maybe the peer group he is connected to. Now I can't stop seeing it as the dirty little "kid juice concentrate" community that it is...eew.

Well, what goes around comes around. Remember the news yesterday that the president had retweeted Chuck Woolery's tweet that "it's all lies" simply to keep the economy from recovering? Well, his son tested positive for covid. He's retracted everything he's said. Truly amazing.

Where's your corner, I'll come hang out too. I'm done as well. Nobody wants to see facts contrary to the popular narrative and I doubt anyone took the time to really read through the links I posted or read anything Atlas wrote. Like you, I wear a mask. I wear one because I need to work, eat & do whatever. It shouldn't come to that, not in America. I don't put anyone in danger and got food for my parents when the virus was at it's worst. Somehow bringing a contrary viewpoint automatically moves you over there. That's ok, there's more of us over here than anyone can count because we don't have the loudest voices. We just say our piece and leave. That's what I intend to do with this thread. Time will prove us all right and wrong and I have peace knowing what I know and don't need affirmation here. I'd rather write about other things at this point rather than try to offer perspective in this thread.

What facts are you talking about? Present them. No one is opposed to alternative perspectives. The only thing people tend to be opposed to are baseless unsubstantiated claims used to present a point of view. Then you get called out. If you can't present your position with facts, then be prepared to be called out. That's all. So, let's hear the facts that suggest covid is not contagious, that cases aren't rising, that masks don't do anything and that people aren't dying from it. I'm listening.

Mountan Man - Um, please go back and read the thread. I posted links. There's literally 100 pages of facts that I can't present here and I was trying to be kind and not post a huge amount of stats. I think you probably understand Google and searching for Dr. Scott Atlas...........

I am intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter

Well spoiler alert... In next issue I discuss the importance of turning it off and turning it on again. And if you try this before calling support it won't work... It only works if you are on the phone. How this relates to the virus? We may never know... But we gonna figure it out.

Just remember to wait 10 seconds before you turn it on again

DON’T try calling Spectrum to tell them you want a new router if you are calling from an internet based phone system connected to the router you want replaced. when they insist on proving the router you have doesn’t need replacing by ‘restarting’ it...you lose the connection and they will NOT call you back because YOUR ROUTER IS TURNED OFF.

That is about as cold as a person can get. I can’t believe you went there AND thought it was ok to post that in a public forum. Would you like to add anything more to the post? Maybe something about how you hope the guys son dies a horrible death and takes Chuck with him. WOW! The guy tweeted a bunch of garbage...he didn’t kill mother Theresa.

Well regardless of the focused lens of what is happening with Covid there are also some really cool things going on if one just looks to the skies. I would look now as it wont be back for 7000 years. Comet NeoWise over Tucson

Ok. I'll go back and re-read your posts. I did a quick Google search of Dr. Scott Atlas and found some background on him. He's a neruoradiologist. Which essentially means he focuses on abnormalities of the central and peripheral nervous system, spine, head and neck using neuorimaging techniques. That is a long way off from immunology. I'm going to presume that you know this and realize that doctors who specialize in something like neuroradiology aren't experts in other medical specialties like immunology. In fact, doctors of one specialty are slightly more than laymen of other specialties. I realize I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. I'll be back to you once I've had a chance to review some of your other material.
