This morning I decided to shave with my Eclipse Red Ring, whose baseplate reminded me of my Occam’s DE aggressive plate for comparative purposes, which turned into a bit of a fool’s errand, with me as head fool. The head geometries are different. Apples and oranges are both somewhat round and fruity and the Eclipse and Occam’s are both safety razors designed to shave whiskers. That’s about as fair a comparison as I can make. Both are great razors, but the Eclipse demonstrates more blade feel. I really like both razors, and that’s about where I’m going to leave it. The Eclipse delivered its usual two pass BBS and shaved through my usual trouble spots with smooth, bloodless aplomb well cushioned on a slick, shiny, highly-mentholated MWF lather. I will say that I do like the additional heft of the Occam’s more, but the end product is identical. I feel smooooth, cooool, clean and refreshed.

RAZOR: Eclipse Red Ring
BLADE: Feather
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with PAA’s Charcoal-Menthol Cube Preshave Soap
BRUSH: Omega Pro48 Boar
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat salted with 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Old Spice Fresh Lime

PAA "The Cube" v2.0 Preshave
Stirling Soap Co. "Mountain Man" Shave Soap
Stirling Soap Co. 24mm Finest Badger Brush
1964 Gillette Slim
Gillette Nacet Blade
Alum
PAA Unscented Star Jelly
Stirling Soap Co. "Mountain Man" Afteshave

Creed "Silver Mountain Water" EdP

Razor: Yates 921 w/ hybrid base plate
Brush: Simpson Persian Jar 2 Super
Cream: Gillette Pure
Blade: Bolzano (2)
Post: Proraso Green splash and Zingari Man Unscented Balm

Had a very smooth 3 pass shave after 2 days of destroying my face with the Kamisori. Reached to the back of the cabinet and grabbed the Pure. While it’s definitely not the best cream I’ve used it is quite serviceable for a quick shave. My second use of the Simpson and it really is quite the brush. Feels great in my hand and the knot is excellent for me.

Returned from Pleasant Hill, TN yesterday, and all I can say is it’s nice to be home, and have reliable internet service again. My apologies for being unable to participate as fully as I like. The spotty service from Friday to yesterday was frustrating! In any case, shave #3 continues to reinforce my very positive impressions of the Occam’s DE. I really like the aggressive plate on the razor which actually is quite efficient. The Grooming Dept’s Donkey Milk Soap whipped up beautifully with my Jayaruh Custom Two Band Badger brush. The longer rosewood handle, besides being very attractive, made it easier to soap up the back of my head. In addition the lather combined beautifully with the PAA Cube Preshave soap to again deliver an incredibly close first pass. So close, in fact, that my second pass consisted mostly of some selective buffing in my regular three trouble spots around my face. Using the same double soap prep on the noggin sunk all the balls! The alum block revealed some very slight heat in the middle of the back of my head, but otherwise, DFS all around. I feel clean, smoooth, and refreshed.

RAZOR: Occam’s DE
BLADE: Feather
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with PAA’s Charcoal-Menthol Cube Preshave Soap
BRUSH: Jayaruh Custom Two Band Badger with Rosewood Handle
SOAP: Grooming Dept’s Donkey Milk
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished with Aqua Velva (Spanish Version)

I work at a telecommunications company and we're actually pushing out into rural areas and offering them a level of service they've never seen. Internet speeds up to 1gig! It's actually in AT&T's footprint but there's such a low density of people per square mile that they (AT&T) wont invest in the infrastructure because there's no profit to be made. But a small independent company like mine can do the work at minimal cost and offer something they couldn't get from the "big guy". We've signed up SO many people this past year. Fiber optic technology is the great equalizer. The Federal Government has finally caught up to that idea and are offering companies incentives to push out into rural areas and offer high bandwidth service where it didn't exist before.

That’ll be a blessing! Unfortunately, my wife’s stepdad does not have that much longer on this plane.

Love that Enoch! Hope it’s working well for you ! I cancelled my order back in November. I hear it’s a decent shaver. How does it compare to the Vector? I know you have one.

MUCH prefer the Vector. Just the first to test it on a pass around @The Monkey was kind enough to do.

Thanks a lot, Dave! I thought so, but now feel much better about my decision. I did order the new revised Colonial General. Hated the original handle. Like this new design a great deal more. B1E360AC-F7B0-443C-A239-41ACCB21A5D4.jpeg
