The Process-
Had a bit of trouble sleeping last night and I got up before the sunrise today. I don't have the work wages this week for a trip into town, so I shaved at home. I usually shave at sun up with the fresh sunlight pouring down over the hillside, but today it was candle light. The missus was not up yet to light the wood stove, so it was cold water in the bowl this morning. Went ahead and started the fire for coffee after my shave. Grabbed my shaving gear, bowl of water and a towel and headed to the kitchen table. I grabbed the old boar brush that has been in my family as long as I can remember, dipped it into the water and went to the soap. I rubbed the soap for about half a minute and started whipping up a lather. I don't usually use that much soap, but today I wasn't too concerned. This is a soap that the missus picked up from the General Store and it has a nice light scent. It also feels better on the skin than our homemade soap. A nice luxury on occasion. I also had a lot of lather which was really nice, but it seemed wasteful. But as I mentioned earlier, no worries about that today.

I have an old leather strop that hangs in the kitchen. It was part of an old, broken cinch strap off my saddle that has found a new purpose. It may be old and tattered some, but it works well on knives, my razor and for keeping the children on the right path. Ran the razor across the strop for forty laps and I was ready to shave. I normally just go with one quick pass to knock most of the hair off, but today was different. Today I shaved three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG and didn't cut myself. It was a very nice shave that would rival our barber in town. And best of all, my face is baby butt smooth.

Rinsed off with a bit of water from my bowl and quickly patted my face dry. A healthy splash of the aftershave and I am ready for the task at hand. Something is coming. There is a storm building off in the distance and I can feel it. I hope my humble homestead can weather this one, but only time will tell. I am not as young as I once was, but I will rebuild if I have too. Whether I care to or not, it's times to strap on the revolver and head out. Let's see what's over that rise.

Just another quiet morning on the ranch I see. I hope you can round up all your cattle before the thunder clouds let loose.

The Process-
Same gear, different day, you know the drill. Had a great shave yesterday ... you saw it didn't you? Anyway, great shave so I kept the same setup again today. Was a bit tired this morning, but not sure why. Or maybe I do. Hit the soap for 30 seconds and whipped up a nice lather. In spite of that, I may try the Zenith tomorrow, just to answer a question in my head. Had enough lather for 3 passes and a post shave lather.

40 laps on leather and I was ready to shave. I went with my standard three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG and have no drama to report. Very nice shave this morning and I am BBS for the win! Love it when that happens. Wrapped everything up with a splash of water and quick pat dry. A healthy splash of the AS and everything was right as rain! Off to run the gauntlet!

Home Front-
The skies are filled with black and read. What I thought was a storm has descended upon our small town. I was mistaken, it is not a typical storm, but has that same feel. It is like an oppressive pressure wave. You can feel the tension and uncertainty in the air. It keeps everyone on edge. In talking to my neighbors, this thing may pass in 4-6 weeks. They have heard of this happening in other places and it just has to be weathered. It has now settled in and some may not be spared. We will just keep about the daily business and pray that the homestead will remain strong. We do not speak of it by name.

Life is good!

I had never heard of that before. That sounds ominous to say the least. I await word of when you make it through the darkness.

Nice recitation of literature. At least that is all I hope it is. Oddly enough, I think most of us have experienced something like that in our lives. If not literal, then metaphorical. Either way...there is beauty in the doom in gloom. Sounds like a book I read a million years ago (I think I was in High School) called This Present Darkness. It's a book with strong religious overtones, but I remember at the time I liked it. Hmm...wonder what I would think of it now.

See there's where I went wrong. I don't read books at home, hell I only opened my school books a couple of times. Only a couple of novels have been able to keep my attention.

Man ... I may have to check out that book.

The Process-
Running a bit behind this morning ... I know ... I know. Anyway, I kept most everything from the kit, but I did change out the brush. Just had a random question running through my head that needed an answer. Went with the standard 30 second load time and cranked out a ton of lather. I have found that the boars can hold a lot of water, so you have to keep that in mind depending on the soap you are using. It could be easy to blow right past the water band.

40 laps on leather and it was go time. I went with a two pass shave of WTG and ATG and have no drama to report. Tried to change it up a bit due to time. Got a good shave and I am DFS for the win! I missed a bit on the jawline, which I think gets picked up on the XTG stroke. I'll take it.

Wrapped everything up with a splash of water and towel dry. A glug splash of the AS and everything was right as rain! That's right baby ... hitting it hard today. I ready for this week to be over.

Home Front -
My previous ramblings may have metaphorical ... or not. Or I could be attempting to stretch my literary wings ... look out Mr. King! Again ... or not. All I know is that it's Wednesday and I have a short week. My weekend will include both Friday and Monday ... woohoo! Life is good!

TGITHMF! That's right friends and neighbors, we are winding down this short work week. I ended up changing everything up, except for the soap. The NEW had a blade in it, so it got the nod today. That's right, I set the bar kinda high - meh ... blade in it? Let's roll. Thought I might try the badger as well today. I had shaken more water out of the badger than I originally thought. Also went with a 30 second load time, which was a tad pasty on the brush. I dipped the brush tips in water, as needed, and the lather just exploded. I had a great sloppy lather going on, with enough for the shave and post shave lather.

Really wanted to end the week with the PermEdge, but it was not to be. I went back to a 3 pass shave of WTG, ATG and ATG and have no drama to report. That was an outstanding shave right there! That razor is effortless, efficient and really doesn't have any blade feel. I walked away BBS for the win! Finished that up with a ton of lather for the post shave, while I cleaned up the gear.

Wrapped everything up with a splash of water and a quick pat dry. A glug of the AS and everything was right as rain! Ok ... I really did a double glug. Man I hit it like it owed me money. I am that guy today! So what ... it's been a rough week. I am going out dropping the mic, walking off stage and leaving the door open. Long weekend, here I come!

This weekend will be awesome, simply because we have no set plans. I'm sure I have stuff to do, I just don't know what it is yet. Anyway, that's the 411 as I know it. Life is good!
