The Deets-
So yesterday and today I kept the same kit and just switched over to a DE to try out these new blades. This weekend just felt kinda strange not mixing things up with a random shave … but that’s where we are. I think I’ve mentioned before that this soap/AS set is a one and done. Nothing wrong with the scent or anything like that. It whips up a nice lather and all, it’s just the post shave that bugs me. I haven’t bothered to isolate whether it’s the soap, the AS or both, but it just feels heavy on the skin. Like a heavy moisturizer or something. Anyway…

Had a very good shave this morning and these new blades are a keeper. I did notice a bit of a difference in blade feel, but that may be due to the razor change. This Super Speed is a no frills, early 50’s model. Sorry, didn’t bother to look at the date code, but it shaves really well and earned a place in the permanent rotation. I always find the subtle differences between razors and blade combinations interesting. Hm … I’m putting way too much thought into this today. All of that rambling aside, it was a relaxing BBS shave for the win! Life is good!

Home Front-
Small get together at the youngest stepson’s house this evening. With brisket and Boston Butt bringing everyone together. Man, I’m hungry already.

So … made it through another work week with A&E, but had to mix it up. Grabbed the Super Speed and a brush that hasn’t been on deck in a while. This one was made by Graydog and I named it Schoolhouse Rock. This wood was salvaged from an old 100+ year old school … good stuff.

Vintage AOS and Casino Royale brought everything together for a really good shave. Great start to the day. Life is good!

No fishing this weekend?
Not this weekend … just stuff around the house. I am on-call, so kinda hobbled. They are also predicting crazy crowds and traffic, even this far outside of Dallas. We are about center of the eclipse path of totality.

I do have a tournament next weekend and another one later this month.

The Deets-
Greetings friends and neighbors and apologies for the long absence! I know my shave towels were missed. Alas, you don’t get a pic of one today.

So, let’s talk shaving. Today was an early afternoon shave. More on that below, if you are interested. I grabbed this no-name Solingen razor that I picked up when first getting into straights. It was NOS, nothing fancy but shaves really well. Anyway, it got the nod today. The RR 400 brush looked fun. I need to ditch the synthetic knot and replace with something natural, but I’m really digging the handle shape. SV Stella Alpina was on deck ans well, and that was a good call.

I loaded the soap heavy and had the water a bit too hot, but it worked well and was really relaxing. Whipped up a light feeling, really slick lather and got to it. I went with my standard three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. Man that was a very nice shave, it really hit the spot to start the day. Oh … did I mention that I am BBS for the win? Oh yeah! Wrapped everything up with a quick rinse and a splash of the aftershave and everything was right as rain.

Oh my gosh … I have not been this relaxed in a while. Today is a lazy day just to refresh physically and mentally. Life is good!

Home Front-
So … for those of you still reading, here is the straight dope behind the scenes. You can turn around now, no harm no foul. My struggle bus has been rocking down the express lane…

So work has been a beat down. This year more so than in the past and all of this mess started pre-pandemic. Like some other shops, we appear to be on a semi-annual layoff spree. In the gaps, they just quietly fire people thinking no one will notice when they disappear. Those of us left standing are told to work harder, do more with less. Existing workload is just spread around. The rebellious teenage me would be appalled that I fell victim to the machine.

Several weeks ago, we lost one of our teenage grandsons in an auto accident. Family is still dealing with this loss. I’ll just stop there.

On a lighter note. Yesterday the oldest stepson and I fished our monthly tournament. We are currently standing first and second place in our club. Ranking is per member, based on points. We were beat hard yesterday. We had two fish totaling 3.5 lbs … so sad. It was hot and miserable weather. I was trying a different sinus med with a decongestant and I ended up dehydrated. That was the reason for the afternoon shave today. I guess it took 15 hours of sleep to sort itself out. So today is a lazy day. Anyway, that’s all I have today, thank you for reading my ramblings. Stay spicy!

So sorry for your loss. Jobs can be replaced loved ones cannot. No on ever thinks that they will outlive their children or grandchildren. I cannot imagine the pain you and your family is in. Sharon & I are praying and prayers go out to you for healing. Maybe some solace in knowing that your grandson was so important, that our Good Lord needed him early

If there is anything that I or the Cadre can do please let us know

Great to see you pop in Tim! So very sorry to hear about your family loss. Prayers for you all.

Just say no to drugs Tim. It’s that simple. 🤷‍♂️

Sad news, Tim.

Best wishes and prayers for your family, Tim.

Great to hear from you Tim! I'm hoping the struggle bus gets a flat tire for you.

So … outstanding shave today, everything just clicked. I don’t have many, but I really dig the Feather blades. These blades in an Old Type … man, oh man. And some BBS goodness for the win!

On another note. Apologies for over sharing on my last post, I was mentally and physically exhausted. But no worries, I hit that struggle bus like it owed me money. Life is good!
