Would I enjoy the "ghost" shaving soaps?

Just a quick question; looking for some opinions.

I've never really been a menthol guy. I like a little bit in my aftershave, but not everyday. I have used lightly mentholated soaps in the past, like I Coloniali. It was so lightly mentholated that I never really noticed the cooling until I was applying the second pass lather, at which time I could feel it. And then when I rinsed after the shave I could feel it. I enjoyed that, and thought that maybe it could be a TINY bit stronger.

Now, I don't own any mentholated soaps at all. I do have two Soapy Science soaps that have a bit of cooling; one is the Mint Mint scent and the other is Doc's Special Blend. Mint Mint has peppermint and spearmint in it; Doc't Special Blend has a bit of peppermint and a bit of wintergreen in it. I think Mint Mint has a bit more cooling that Doc's Special Blend. It is probably slightly more cooling than I Coloniali. I enjoy both Mint Mint and Doc's Special Blend.

With that as the background, do you think I would enjoy one of the "ghost" scents from CBL? Any of you that have tried the "ghost" scents, have you also tried I Coloniali or one of the two Soapy Science scents I mentioned? If so, could you compare the cooling effects?

Thanks in advance.

I have some of the Ghost Lime which I received in Josh's monster PIF. PM me your address. I will get some sample containers from Amazon and send you a sample.

The Ghost soaps start of a bit mild and intensify slowly for pretty long period. They don't get too strong, but do last about 45 minutes. I haven't tried the soaps you have tried but I do have Sudsy Soapery Twice Mint which should be similar to Mint Mint. No menthol but two types of mint. The Ghost cooling is different than the Twice Mint. I would dare say that the Twice Mint is colder from the start, but doesn't last long. Don't know if this helps or not. If you can try a sample that would be the best way to figure it out!

There are three basic reasons to like the ghost line (The Holy Black calls there’s “creeper”). The first is that there is zero menthol scent, making it possible to give any scent profile a cooling effect without introducing the minty menthol note. The second is how the cooling effect sneaks up on you rather than slapping you in the face. ...and third, The cooling effect can last longer than typical menthol BUT since many menthol products are fairly heavy in menthol it may seem regular menthol and Koolada (the cooling agent in ghost lime) last a similar amount of time. The ghost lime has a fairly mild menthol feel that shows up late in the first pass and gets more pronounced when you rinse between passes, it has a hang time of up to 20 minutes.

The newer V2 ghost uses two cooling agents. The result is a much longer hang time (detectiable for upto an hour) and a slightly stronger peak cooling. By pairing the two you get the slowing increasing feel with a little more punch at the top end. Unless paired with actual menthol, the ghost soaps won’t be so intense as to be destracting.

Thanks, guys, for all the great info. I'm going to take Doug up on his offer to send me a sample so I can see for myself. It sounds really interesting.
