Thanks to bobs PiF, i got a chance to try out declaration grooming weinstrasse. I’m not sure if its the milksteak base as the jar and ingredients on the jar vs website look different. i love wine and i had no idea what to expect on opening the jar and taking the big inhale waft

Notes: white grape, honeysuckle, iris, blackcurrant bud, helichrysum, sandalwood, coumarin, oakmoss and musk.

WEINSTRASSE - CHATILLON LUX COLLABORATION

Founded by German immigrants searching for a new home after fleeing an authoritarian rule in the 19th century, the Missouri Rhineland is named after its German counterpart due to the similar rich, fertile soil along the sloping banks of the Missouri River. The Missouri Weinstrasse features many wineries with sweet, white wines in the German tradition, along winding countryside roads.

This fragrance aims to reimagine the fougère with a white grape top note and a lush, dense supporting cast of flora and fauna that could be found on the winding trails, perfect for a beautiful day with no particular destination in mind
.

I’m currently confused over what a fougere should smell like and this doesnt help at all. Fern is the base of fougeres, right? I’m gonna have to stick my face into my ferns again.

I don’t love grape juice, but i love red/white grapes and the initial hit off the puck is a sweet grape, but rich/dense and not cloying. Somehow it exists between a manishevitz, dessert wine and a semisweet white. Thankfully, for me, that scent transitions from sweetness to the more interesting iris and bitter/smokey currant and almost feels smokey. Maybe its the sandalwood. Whatever it is, its way more enjoyable to me than the straight up initial sweetness hit.

i’m guessing it’s gonna need some hydration, but first impressions were positive. Thanks for the PiF Bob!

Fougere means fern, but it's not the scent of fern. Ferns don't have much of a scent. But it's supposed to evoke the feeling of being in a fern forest, or something like that. Bright, Crisp, and Green.

I spent a lot of time in some russian “fern” forests. I recall finding paparatnik (iirc fiddle head fern) and cheremsha (ramps or garlicky greens?). I can recall the visuals and tastes, but I dont recall an overall scent. I guess I wasn’t paying enough attention or just too much vodka and shashlik.

edit: lo and behold a pic of both together with some radishes.

That base is the Icarus base, which was right before the current Milksteak base. It's a little harder so it should last a little longer. I know that DG is making the Weinstrasse in the Milksteak base as well, so you ought to be able to pick some more up if you like it.

Good to know. Thx.

Unfortunately i have so much soaps to get through and my wife didn’t appreciate it as much as i do, so i’ll just keep using this up for the shaves i do before showering. Good stuff though.

This scent is definitely growing on me, i like it much better after the sweet notes kind of dissipate and definitely feel the smokier accent. I haven’t (or dont recall) that much if a change on other scents.
