He started back in 2016 and I bought two samples Spring of 2017. He's a scientist I believe in the ag dept. of a major Iowa university and really knows chemistry it appears. His tallow is superb and sourced locally. It's easily one of the best soap buys per ounce in the market. Approx. $12 for five ounces when most vendors give you only four.

As regards the shave, well his lather is luxuriant and the scent, while subdued, is extremely tasteful. Glide & cushion are IMO top shelf and for those that care, post shave feel is excellent. As a benchmark I will add that as much as I like Shannon's Soaps I rate Viking as better constructed. As a matter of fact it's better made than 99% of other artisans. This guy does R&D in the ag field and it shows in the product. This is not some "slapped together" soap by some modern day pseudo "alchemist", but it just looks, feels & shaves like a well thought out tonsorial treasure. He's a great guy to boot and shipping is less than $4.00 and fast.
 
I remember when he started but never got any as he was always sold out. Nice to see stock and I will have to try at some point when I whittle down my stock of soaps.
 
I tried Viking soap a while back...both the Vegan base and the Tallow base. I liked them fine really. I did think the vegan base was lacking a bit but the tallow was spot on, I probably need to give them another look at some point because what I used were samples. I certainly like the theme of the soaps. Didn't know anything about the maker's background so thank you for that!
 
I tried the Old Norse Tallow version a while back. It was in a group of soaps that Chad gave me to try out. I recall not being very impressed with it. I felt it was a tier 2 soap.
