I needed funds to repair a fence that blew down in the latest wind storm and so I put two of my best SE razor up for sale on the other forums. One is still for sale and so if anyone is looking for a Totai Mandarin roller guard French Rapide, let me know. The other razor was a cased Streamline and the best I could do was get a trade for it. I will let all of you know that TTO razors are not my favorite and I was down to two - Feather Popular (which was my first DE razor when I got back into wet shaving) and an X4 Super Speed (which is my birth year/quarter razor).
Anyway, in considering the trade, I had a choice of getting a cased Eclipse Red Ring and forking over $100 more (which would get me further away from paying for my fence repair) or get a cased 1941 Regent Tech and a flat bottom Aristocrat Jr as an even swap. I settled for the two TTO and they both arrived today. I shaved with the Regent Tech tonight. I pulled out my Super Speed and compared the two. I could see where there was a definite sharing of DNA between the two with the RT being more industrial and straight forward. When I shaved with it, the shave was also industrial and straight forward with more blade feel and less smoothness, but a definitely more efficient shave. One thing I did notice when shaving with the RT on the left side of my face and the SS on the right was that both these razors shaved better going ATG. Few of my razors do that. In the end, though the Super Speed was more comfortable, the RT was more efficient.
This sets up tomorrow's shave with the Aristocrat Jr with the 430030 head. Just in getting a feel for it tonight and loading the blade, the mechanism was very smooth and comparing the construction of it to the RT and SS, it appeared to be more refined and simpler.
Now I just need to hope that the fence repair bill won't get to me before my Social Security check.
