Tradere

Never heard of it.

FYI for everyone

Nice looking razor! I hope they make the switch to 316L if they haven’t already, I think that might help further eliminate the tea staining issues as I’ve had with the Vector.

I remember Tradere from back in the day. It was one of the first real artisan DE razors. It was highly sought after and people spoke very highly of it. I’d heard that Blackland was bringing it back, but this is the first I’ve heard of it being ready (or nearly).

There's been talk elsewhere and I knew it was coming to pre-order but I'd prefer the Paradigm Diamond back if I was taking another leap....

Wow this could be interesting, Tried one in a passaround yrs ago, and They were extremely nice in the same realm as the Vector so if they are doing a re-make thing could be a real winner!

I owned the original which was open comb stainless steel. It was never stated if they used 316 or 303 stainless steel and it didn't matter to me because I never thought about it. That was about 7 or 8 years ago. The price was $169 . The build quality was very good but the shave just average. I sold the razor. About a year later they ca,me out with a closed comb and it was being sold by Bullgoose Shaving. Phil was kind enough to send me a loaner to give my opinion. The shave was not impressive at all. I couldn't get a BBS no matter how many passes I did. Phil used the same razor and agreed with me. Even so the new version looks great I am not interested in buying one further more the price has been jacked up to $265 (303 stainless steel) . The razor has a flat head and I think the idea was copied from Pils.

Very informative, thank you..
I don’t care for the Pils .

SOTD. Wanted to use two things I haven’t used in a long time. I usually don’t use my own products to post in a Shave review or Shave Off but it’s been to long so I pulled out my DB Shave soap and Skin Food splash and also knowing that the new Tradere is being released by Blackland I thought I’d take my original 1st Gen OC out and take it for a spin.
Did a 2 pass WTG and ATG pass and it was a very pleasant Sunday morning BBS Shave. The one thing I couldn’t wait to try was a gift I got from a shaving buddy of mine Mark aka @ShaveMD. First off this Simpson Polo Manchurian is huge! It feels like quality in hand and it holds a ton of lather. The knot feels fantastic on my face. So I’d like to thank Mark for this beauty!
A lot of folks have called the 1 st Gen Tradere aggressive but with using no pressure and some skin stretching it was a nice smooth but efficient razor that effectively reduced my 2 1/2 days growth.

@slantman I am so glad you posted your original Tradere experiences as I posted (on another board) my trial with a 1st gen Tradere OC and found the shave cumbersome and average at best. It seems to pull lather around without being efficient at all - it reminded me of a Gillette New Long (open) Comb. I passed on a BST $325 Tradere around the same time because of my experience - no doubt there is value as a collectable but I prefer to use my razors. I stand by my opinions that the original Tradere was neither nimble or efficient despite @Dragonsbeard, my friend and someone I respect when it comes to wet shaving, shave-offs. I am sure he respects my opinions but some on that other (shave) board were none to pleased. I suspect this new release which is a duplicate with uniform polishing and length specs will yield the same results at least for me. Nevertheless I will be interested in the shaving experience and watching from the sidelines.

@Dragonsbeard Where can we get that little dragon or is he a special add-on prize like the toy in the bottom of a cereal box ?

I wouldn’t let other people’s comments in a thread bother you because you voiced your opinion and experience with a particular razor. In this case the Tradere. Some get confrontational when their experience using a razor, brush, blade or shave soap is the opposite of yours and they can’t understand how you didn’t get the same results as they did. I usually brush comments like that aside and move on.

AJ the little Dragon is my mascot and they are on Etsy as mini garden figures.

I bought on of the originals when they firs came out. Beautiful razor. I used it perhaps a dozen times before concluding it was just too aggressive for me. It sat on my shelf for about 5 years before I traded it for a couple of high end brushes.

At first I was caught up in the excitement when Shane announced he would be making a licensed Tradere, however over time I kind of lost interest. I did notice that the head design was very similar to the Pils with the flat head. I did get the Ikon flippable head of similar design and was not impressed. In any case, I decided that there was no rush for me to get one as Blackland has a better way of making sure things are always in stock than RR or PAA and so I know I can always get one should I change my mind. Besides, at $265, this is squarely an amount in between my car payment and my mortgage.

Yes that was my experiences as I was not too impressed. The original price for the Tradere was $169 now $265 paid in advance. I will bet when everybody gets their new Tradere sooner or later some will sell theirs on BST. "novelty wears off"
