Picked this beater up for a few bones. Hope it cleans up well, but I will probably loose the gold wash. The scales are stamped “Patented August 01, 1905”

If you plan to take it out of the scales you can try soaking it in vinegar for the loose rust and then maybe some light polishing

It's not to bad. Just use a light hammer and remember that many light hits are better than a few hard ones.

If you haven’t tried it yet, a vinegar soak will give you a deep patina.

I've done that with boiling vinegar before. It's a nice tool if you like the ages look
