Tonsorial vs premium

Premium is softer and more pliable than the tonsorial. Beyond that, it is like trying to compare two sunrises.

Not exactly 100% identical, but one is not worse than the other. The premium is may with Wagyu beef tallow, while the tonsorial does not. I would say pick whichever one has the scent you want (Roasted Oatmeal Stout! ) and if it is offered in both formulae, pick whether you want softer or harder (or buy one of each!).

Tonsorial is a recreation of vintage Williams and Similar old timey soaps. It gives that’s same soft creamy lather you expect from those soaps. It’s not worse than the premium, it’s just different. For the price, it can’t be beat.

Haha I was just watching your video where you used CBL soap and vector razor.

This is a great place to start.

The difference starts with the formula, the Premium base is made with additional butters and oils chosen specifically to enhance face feel and post shave conditioning feel. The Premium formula is also designed to maximise slickness during the shave AND should give you the impression of having a stronger scent (compared to the tonsorial). The Premium formula is also made to load and lather quickly, this and the softer oils that improve the conditioning feel make the soap soft.

The Tonsorial soap was designed to be very much like the old school vintage soaps I love so much. These soaps are much harder by design and make a cremier lather that is meant to be super slick..thats the biggest goal, SLICK. There isn't anything added to the formula to enhance conditioning or feel. The formula is simple but that doesn't mean it is a bad or poor performing soap, especially if you are in the habit of splashing on your own aftershave. Generally speaking the tonsorial soaps (the ones one the shelves right now) have a mild scent compared to the premium soap(s). Future productions may be stronger.

I'll add a little twist to the story...There is a third version that isn't readily available yet but is out there, called Master Barber. It is a Tonsorial soap base that has been kicked up a notch or two. It has the same firmness, creamy lather and slickness but has been modified to include some additional ingredients that enhance the face feel and post shave feel. AND they tend to have stronger scent strength. These are available as pucks rather than poured into tubs.
