Timeless Aluminum

Has anyone tried the timeless aluminum razor?
wondering how it shaves and if it is aggressive or mild?
i have been using a Merkur 34c since I started as my daily driver and have enjoyed it. Just thinking of upgrading.
I also have a Gillette New razor that works really well to mow down multiple days growth.

if anyone has used a 34c and the aluminum how do they compare?
also, how do aluminum razors shave? I hear they don‘t weigh much compared to brass razors but do they drag?

thanks again for your help!

I'm new here, and just saw your post with no replies. I have not used the Timeless aluminum razor and it is a different design from the SS and Ti which I have used. As far as the weight issue, the Timeless Al & Ti are within 3.5 grams of each other (Ti-74.2 depending on the plate & Al- 77.8). To your question on how do aluminum razors shave, given the same design it would shave the same as titanium. Probably why Timeless changed the design.

Good info, I didn't know the Aluminum was a different design.

Thank you both for the warm welcome.

Just a little of my history with regard to this subject. I bought the Timeless SS .95mm SB razor a few months ago with the 85mm dimple handle. Loved the razor but toward the end of a 3 pass shave my hand started to cramp. I wanted to take a little weight out, so I ordered the knurled handle which dropped about 10 grams off and also the barber pole handle for more variety. The barber pole handle actually weighs a little more than the original dimple handle, but no cramping with the barber pole. I realized the knurling on the barber pole gave me a better purchase than the dimple handle, and I was just griping the dimple handle too tight.

Then to play with the weight a little more I thought about ordering a titanium plate to mix a match. After looking at the Timeless scratch & dent offerings, I decided to order a full titanium razor with a .95 OC plate. This has given me a number of mix a match options that I have really enjoyed. And I am surprised to find that I like the open comb the best.

This has been great fun for sure.

Purchased this razor on a whim and just to give Timeless Razors an extra add on sale as I was on their site about 3 weeks ago to purchase their new Crown Ti handle. They’ve always treated me well with my previous purchases from them with excellent customer service and shipping times. I already have their Stainless, Titanium & Brass versions so, I decided to complete the family tree of razors. I’ll keep it short and sweet and won’t go into every detail of make up and quality, just the shaves that I’ve had with it for the 8-10 days.

First things first, I’m not the biggest fan of Aluminum/Lightweight razors though, I do have a couple of them that perform quite well. Truthfully, I was just expecting to have some decent shaves with it and for it to perform equal and no more to the ones that I already own. And honestly, I was completely bamboozled by the Aluminums outright shave prowess and performance. I have put in 7 or 8 shaves with it and they have been nothing short of excellent. Surprisingly good efficiency with some blade feel and much smoother feeling than I ever expected. Shave 1 was really the only one that I had “an issue” and that was just a couple of weepers near the corners of my mouth but, I labeled that just a small learning curve and getting to know the razor. From that shave on every other shave was smooth, efficient and extremely comfortable. No nics, cuts or irritation to speak of with every shave a BBS finish or darn near close for 1 or 2 of them. But, what really got to me was the lightweight of the razor instinctively put me into “I might have to use a bit more pressure” to get the results that I wanted. Couldn’t have been further from the truth. Yes, there was a slight bit of pressure on my end but, nothing more than say I’d have used with a Gillette Twinjector or even my PAA Ascension Aluminum razor. I was surprised at the minimal effort that was needed to get good cutting action from the Timeless Aluminum. It was quite revealing and equally very satisfyina on the shaving end of it.

This is a quality razor that shaves exceptionally well. To me not as smooth as the Timeless SS razor and not close to the Ti which is the best of the bunch for my tastes but, I think it shaved me better than the Bronze .38 SB variant which is not a bad razor either. I don’t think Timeless has a bad razor in their line up and the Aluminum creation definitely has its place in the Timeless collection.

I’m glad I have it and for $50 from their scratch & dent pile, it’s a hell of a bargain.....

Really nice write up on a razor I own but haven't used yet.

I've been busy using another Timeless you like, the Ti. I have only the 95 OC but it will do.

Happy shaves, my friend,

Jim

Today I used my Timeless Aluminum for the first time. Loaded with a brand new Wizamet SI blade.

6-26-21.TimelessAluminum.Mistura.Wizamet.640.JPG

It is very efficient. I'd say it might be the most efficient of the Timeless razors. I've used the Bronze OC and SB, the SS Slim OC, the Ti Slim SB, and the Ti 95 OC so I have some basis of comparison.

It is mild feeling but not the smoothest of the Timeless razors. It has some blade feel. I wouldn't refer to it as aggressive, but quite efficient.

Obviously, one shave is not enough to climb any learning curve or know a new razor, but I was favorably impressed. Very favorably impressed considering the efficiency.

Of note: I used no shaving soap but washed my face with the PAA preshave called the Cube, rinsed my face completely, then face lathered with the Cube. Not an experiment I'll repeat, but still I'd say one can certainly lather up the Cube and use it as a shaving soap. Not bad at all.

Happy shaves to you,

Jim
