NOTE Up Front! Even if you don't have a puck of Williams...... Keep Reading
We had some fun with this before, so lets do it again. You may have been a part of this experience here or on other Forums, or this may be completely new to you, but it's something that I have enjoyed over the years and it's time to continue this experience at The Cadre! This has been a yearly tradition, except that I neglected to start one last year because my puck from the previous year was still going, hence the quotes on "Annual."
We will join together on Feb 1st to 3017 a puck of Williams Mug Soap. What's a 3017? Basically, just commit yourself to using a puck of Williams Mug Soap for every shave until it's gone. For the average user this will probably be around 25-45 shaves, but can be shorter or longer depending on your use. This challenge is typically done with a modern puck and the idea is to really use it and try to get the best lather out of it. Some folks use Williams for a shave or two and get mediocre results and give up, but by 3017ing the puck, you try different things and really try to dial in your technique. Or, maybe you've got a puck of vintage, A.K.A. the really good stuff, and you want to actually get it out and use it. Then here's your chance.
Want to see how quickly you can use up a puck? Great! I think my record in 20 shaves, and you won't hurt my feelings if you beat that.
Want to see how long a puck will last you? Awesome! My record is 379 shaves, and I will be VERY impressed if anyone even attempts to try to beat that.
I suspect most folks are somewhere in the middle. Either way, just document your shaves in this thread, and let us know what you are trying with the puck and how many shaves you have on it.
The 3017 starts on February 1st (although I usually start on Feb 2nd to coincide with J.B. Wiliams' Birthday.
Bonus: Williams is a SUPER slick soap and can help your blade last even longer than normal. Want to put it to the test? Join the February One Blade Challenge and do both in tandem! Check it out here:
It's that time once again! It's a New Year and we are approaching the shortest month of the year.
That means it's time to sign up for the FEBRUARY "ONE BLADE" CHALLENGE!!
And yes, I did put quotes around "Annual" because we did not do this last year. I failed to start one because my blade from the previous year was still going! So, since you've had a year off, you all should be anxious to join up...... right?
Originally started, back in the day, to try to test/prove claims that you could get a month's worth of shaves from the legendary Personna 74 blade. Then, subsequent challenges...

This all sounds great, but what if you don't have a puck of Williams Mug Soap? I understand. It is no longer made, and the secondary market for it has become insane. You can find it reasonably, but it's rare. Many times you can buy vintage pucks cheaper than the modern (which is just crazy!). But if you want to play along, I'm willing to put up 10 of my pucks for those who want to play along, with the following rules:
1. Must sign up by 22 Jan, so I can get it in the mail to you in time to start.
2. Must have 25 posts minimum, i.e. active on the forum.
3. Agree to be active in the thread, posting at least twice a week.
