Speed Razor (not to be confused with Speed Racer or Speedo Razor-Dot)

Once again I delve into the strange razor category by finally getting yet another of my slowly dwindling list of unicorns. This one is the Speed Razor from Sweden. Now most of you will say "I didn't know Sweden made razors.". Yes they did but not many manufacturers. The most famous one is the Swing razor with the brown bakelite handle (and excellent shaver), and the lesser known one is the Matador (not to be confused with the modern day Matador, which is a POS coming from Pakistan). Of course, our resident genius @The Monkey will say, "What about the CV Heljestrand?", and he would be correct, except this is the DE Discussions section.

So without further ado, the Speed Razor - vintage two piece extreme diagonal razor with beveled top cap:

Now THIS razor got SPEED written all over it (as you can see in the second pic). :geek:

Just for clarification, this is the Speed Racer:

And this is the Speedo Razor-Dot:

Just so we are clear on what we are talking about.

So how does it shave? Well, even though I had a razor set up for tonight's shave, it got preempted by the Speed. I just shaved last night with another extreme diagonal razor (the Bonsa), and so my frame of mind was already halfway into the technique of shaving with an extreme diagonal. The Speed added the slightly different part of having a beveled top cap, which made it easy to find the proper angle for the razor head, and the long handle made it easy to keep the handle perpendicular to my face like a normal razor. What surprised me was that the proper angle for the head was a little on the rough side, and so slowing down a little and being aware of the position of the razor helped a lot in getting past the WTG pass. The ATG pass also presented challenges, especially in keeping everything properly aligned. This razor required great concentration to get a good shave, however it did end up as a two pass with minimal touch up BBS. I am sure that after a couple of shaves under my belt with this one, I will enjoy it more.

That's a cool looking razor my friend. I've never even seen a picture of one before. Thanks for sharing.

That thing looks wicked. Not sure I'd be brave enough to try it if I found one. Cool collectable though!
