So I shaved my beard.

I shaved my beard this morning. I wasn't planning on it when I woke up this morning and made my way to the shower. But as the shower warmed up, I noticed that my beard was looking a little overgrown. So I took my trimmer to the beard and - zip - I cut a stripe straight through the center of it. It ended up that my son had used the trimmer and had lowered the blade to 1 mm.

I tried to clean it up by trimming the rest of the beard short and figured it would grow out again in a week or two. But as I stepped in to the shower, I rethought my plan. I've had this beard for almost 11 years now. It started on a camping trip in 2009 and then my wife suggested that I keep it. I figured now was as good as any for a change and adjusted my plan. And after my shower, I took razor to mustache and beard. I've got new skills to learn now - how to shave my chin and below my nose. I wound up with a weeper or two on my chin, but that'll be something to get better at.

Who said change is bad?

Good for you Bob! Though, I will admit that you looked pretty Debonair with that beard! As far as keeping soap off your lips after a nice lather...

What? You are not supposed to just lick it off? I like the taste of soap! 🤪

In the vids there are several techniques I’ve seen:
- the Prevent Defense. Turning the lips in when the brush passes that area.
- the Thumb Squeegee. Thumb or actually any finger wiping from one direction or another.
- the ‘Reverse kiss’. The lips are parted and the index finger is gently placed between. The lips closes over the digit and it is gently withdrawn outward.
- the ‘I Really Like Soap’. No attempt whatsoever is made to prevent soap from getting on the lip area.
- the ‘Artistic Approach’ Some guys take great pains to paint around the lips avoiding contact.

more techniques welcomed

Good Observations. Watching the videos is a great way to learn everyone's individual techniques. And I'll admit, I use different techniques for different shaves. Most of the time I use the Prevent Defense. But sometimes I forget and use the Thumb Squeegee.

The I Really Like Soap technique should really be called the @dangerousdon technique..... and if you've ever watched any of his videos, you'd know why.
PICS!!!!!
Yes! We need to see before/after pics!!!

You da man, Don King @Majorrich! 🕺
I belong to the "ounce of prevention" school.

Oh and a question from a newb. How do you keep the shaving soap off of your lips after you've lathered?
I don’t worry about it. Unless I’m doing a video, I’m by myself and talking to no one. It’s part of the experience for me!

Mental note to put less weight on Bob's recommendations regarding shaving now that I know he HASN'T BEEN SHAVING all this time.......
