No @NurseDave ..... not THOSE stockings.

Growing up, opening my stocking on Christmas morning was the thing I looked forward to most. The rule at my house was that whenever you woke up, you could immediately go and open your stocking. We usually didn't start opening any other presents until everyone was up and around and we ate breakfast. Breakfast was usually light, because after we were done at our house, we went to my Grandparents' house for a big brunch with the entire family.

I loved my stocking because usually it was filled with snacks, candy, and some fun toys or games that would keep me occupied until I got to open other presents. My Grandmother used to make stockings for everyone in the family: Her 8 kids, her 12 grandkids, and a multitude of great-grandkids. Me and my kids all have one from her, but they use them at their mother's house. And Amber never got the chance to get one from my grandmother before she passed.

My aunt does a lot of quilting, and I asked her a couple years ago, if she could make Amber and I, and the kids all new Stockings similar to the one's my grandmother had made. She outdid herself with these stockings. They are heavy duty quilt fabric and will last a lifetime (plus some!). I was able to give this to Amber last year, and I just pulled them out again for this year. These are slightly larger than what we had been using too, which is nice because I can fit more in them. Since I loved getting my stocking as a kid, it also brings me great joy in filling stockings for others.

The kids' stockings look similar, with the boys and the girls all having matching color schemes.

Do you like stockings as much as I do? Are you still using a stocking from your childhood? Do you have matching stockings for your whole family? Let's see them!

Yes we have stockings from my grandmother somewhere in a box , but we use stockings knitted by my mother and the cool thing is since they were knitted they expand so you can really stuff them full of stuff too ! I always liked the stocking too because they always had fun stuff in them and there was / is always a yoyo ..

WE usually dig into the stockings AFTER all the rabid unwrapping of gifts has happened. I don't know why exactly, it's just the way my wife likes it. For my wife, the stockings are her favorite part, she likes all the little things that get stuffed in there...but more often than not SHE is the one who stuffs all the stuff into them (hers included) so I imagine it's less exciting for her now than before.
We don't have really fancy stockings, I'll have to grab a picture when I get home tonight.

Why don't you put stuff in her stocking?

When I got old enough to realize that it was my mother who did ALL of our stockings, I also realized that my Dad did not contribute much to her stocking, I started putting stuff in my mom's stocking. That's probably part of what makes me like building stockings for others.

As @BarberDave mentioned my wife makes stockings. She learned this style of stitching from her mom and grandma. So the tradition lives on. She stitches more than just stockings also. But she's made these stockings for everyone including close friends like Dave and Sharon, as well as everyone in my family.

She does this all by hand every detail. Here are ours

I had to show you guys these too. I have traditions, but as most of you know, I’m very untraditional. Amber and I have always given each other gifts on Halloween. When I asked my aunt to make us stockings, I had the idea of having her make us Halloween stockings as well. So now our Halloween gifts can go in our stockings. I love what she did with them, and I asked her to make them a little bigger than our Christmas stockings and they are huge!
