Recommendations for soaps that are 'Oud' forward in scent.

After recently moving a set of Extro's - Egyptian Oudh, I'm on the hunt for another Oud forward scented soap.
I know of Tuscan Oud and The Stallion by Razorock, and have heard about 'Agar' by Stirling.

Any others?

I would not call RR The Stallion or Stirling Agar true oud soaps, they’re nice, I like them for what they are, but they don’t have the same depth of a scent more true to actual oud.

Stallion is an oriental, spicy, sweet oud-like scent. Agar is oud-like, on the light side, with a sweet powdery backdrop.

@Dragonsbeard had an oud scented soap.
Thank you and yes my Dragonsbeard shave soap, Skin Food splash and EDP have real authentic Agarwood oil and Oud resin in the Aroma blend. No synthetic fragrance oils used.

Agarwood oil and Oud resin are both extremely expensive and I would not be able to put out a soap using them for $55 like the Dragonsbeard soap is priced at if I had t gotten a very large amount of it for a extremely reasonable price about 3 years ago the Dragonsbeard soap would have easily had to retail for hundreds of dollars. That’s the reality of how expensive Agarwood oil and Oud resin are. That’s why most all shave soaps have to use synthetic Oud aroma chemicals or just an Oud type synthetic fragrance oils. I consider myself very fortunate to have what I have and plan to use it in other aroma blends.
Hope that explains things.

Regards

Frank

Dragon's beard is definitely the soap I would go with here. It is one of if not the best quality soaps out there and I would definitely call it oid forward.

Another oud forward soap I really like is Wholly Kaw's King of Oud.

Is Dragon's Beard v2 still in stock? I thought I read it is gone (OOS, no more batches made) and v3 will be in the works, soon?

Psst, Frank! [emoji6]

Yeah...I think Frank is working on a batch for early 2021.

Hello gents and yes I’m going to begin to make the aroma blend which includes my homemade Madagascar Vanilla bean infused oil. Unfortunately it takes about 8 months to infuse it properly so the plan is to release Dragonsbeard shave soap once a year. I did however keep enough of the blend to not only keep making the Skin Food Splash and the EDP for a while so if folks like the scent they can still get those two.

Thanks guys and great shaves!

Frank

That’s why they keep it locked in the safe at our local Mosques. More precious than gold and has been the signature scent of Arabia for millennia. According to legend, the Three Wisemen had oud included in their gifts of incense for the Christ child. Myrhh, oud, and frankincense are the dearest fragrances on earth and deeply tied to the Abrahamic traditions.

Thanks everyone.
Now I'm curious about the notes for the
Dragonsbeard soap.

Hello sir

The Dragonsbeard aroma blend is made from all natural ingredients. No synthetic fragrance oils are used. The blend includes Agarwood oil, Oud Resin, East Indian Sandalwood EO, Amber EO, Tonka Bean Butter, Homemade Madagascar Vanilla Bean infusion and Rose Absolute.

Thank you!

I know the question was “what soaps have an OUD FORWARD scent...? But it’s worth noting Oud itself isn’t as consistent a scent as something like Frankincense or cinnamon or vanilla etc. Not only can real Oud oils/resins have very different smells (naturally), how that smell presents itself will differ greatly depending on how much is used. Since most fragrances described as “Oud” are either entirely or partially synthetic (due to cost of real Oud as Frank pointed out) the different fragrance oils are also going to smell different depending on source and what the maker intended the product to smell like. I know from experience that there are some very funky, dark and fecal smelling Oud’s and some more rich woody, almost incense like Oud’s (synthetic or natural). I have found Oud and Sandalwood have both fallen into the same commercial production category, you can find a place that produces a consistent ‘quality’ product but what that product smells like is a big question mark... but it is consistent and commercially available.

I say all of what I have ONLY to say, all Oud’s are not equal. Don’t be too quick to run from an Oud forward scent just because you’ve disliked Oud’s in the past, and don’t assume that because you liked one Oud you’ll like them all. I am NOT a master of Oud scents but I do know (and @Dragonsbeard will back me on this one), the difference between Oud heaven and Oud hell is often one pin pricks worth of the real thing (or maybe a few drops or 1/8 ounce of synthetic). A great quality.

CBL Poseidon is made with a couple different Oud’s (synthetic), including a small amount of a darker Oud and a much larger proportion of a brighter Oud. The fragrance is a strong nod to Oud Minerale, it leans away from the incense type use of Oud and takes it more aquatic and mineralic.

Chris is correct I’ve got several different types of Authentic Oud oils and two different resins. I have about 4 1/2 gallons of Agarwood oil that’s from Laos as well as almost 4 oz of Oudah resin and although there’s a good amount of the Agarwood oil in the Dragonsbeard blend one pin point of the Oudah resin is all that’s needed to add to a 16 oz bottle of the Blend. Anymore than that and it would absolutely dominate the scent and I’d loose the essence and balance of the Dragonsbeard aroma.
Neroli is another example of an essential oil that has to be used very carefully as it can also dominate a scent especially if mixed in Top note citrus oils.

I have 3 different synthetic Aroma Chemical Ouds from three different perfume suppliers and honestly only one was out of the 3 was good and had a similarity to the real deal. I also have a sample of both a Oud or Agarwood oil and a Sandalwood oil that I got from India that I know was stepped on mixing it with Jojoba oil so you have to be careful who you buy from nowadays. Lots of scammers out there.

I’m very lucky the Agarwood oil I have in the 5 gallon drum was bought about 3 almost 4 years ago before it got super popular.

Right now there are Oud or Agarwood oils that are super high quality that are selling for $100.000 for 2 Kilograms which is insane.

Also Chris is right sone Oud oils smell very Balsamic or Animalistic or very incense like . No two are exactly alike basically. I’m very happy with what I’ve got and I’ve got a lot of both so my main focus has been on other essential oils and resins.

Oh and Chris I’ll have to try your Oud mineral .
I also have the King of Oud and I like it although like I said I can tell it’s a synthetic fragrance that doesn’t speak much Oud but I like the scent so that’s all that matters.

The Timmermann soap from Wholly Kaw has a pretty serious Oud forward, at least to my nose.
