It could be, depending on the type of Carborundum, but I wouldn't use it. Some people use them, but they are a vintage bonded abrasive which with time may or may not be very good anymore. The reason is the bonding is often times not as it was originally intended and could either be too aggressive and/or inconsistent to provide a quality edge. Vintage natural honing stones are a different animal compared to Vintage synthetic/bonded honing stones. I've used vintage barber hones and they do okay, though some people find that certain barber hones are amazing.

Good luck Jimmy!

My guess is it's about 230 grit, so nowhere near a finisher. i have one that i use to bevel set a concave bevel on a blade, so maybe best used for knives and chisels.
They are extremely hard and to shape mine into a convex stone for removing steel from a razor took me about 4 or 5 hours on a lapping plate.

Thanks Matt ,
The stone was 30 percent off and they had it marked at 20 so it would have been about 14 dollars but since I didnt hear from anyone before they closed I left it there with the option of going and getting it tomorrow if I want it. They had a barbers hone also ( not a franz swatty ) But I already have one of the franz swatty barber hones and didnt think I needed another one of them (it was also 30 percent off and was marked at 12 bucks so it would have been about 9.40 or 9.50 ) .... So if the stone I asked about would not be a good finisher I will not get it....

Thank you for the reply. I only really "Need" a finisher so I will hold off of that one then.
