New razor

Hi all. I just got this nice Erik Anton Berg straight razor for $20. Does anyone got any info about it. When was it made, why the fish on the scales.

Thanks in advance. View attachment 148293
Hi @B.Stegler , the fish or tuna as many of us call it, is a shark, which is one of the E.A. Berg trademarks. This is some terrific Swedish steel and at $20 you got a nice deal! They produced razors from the 1880’s-1950’s. This particular model has Eskilstuna, Sweden marked on it which means it was produced after 1891 when the tariff act was enacted for any foreign manufacturers exporting razors and tools to the United States. Before this time they did not have to list the country of origin. I would say it dates either pre-WW2 Or shortly after the war. During the war, the razors had mostly painted wood scales or rubberize scales. These are celluloid so either early 1930’s or late 40’s.

I have several of their razors and love them. Most of them were 4/8-5/8 razors but there are a few 6/8 plus sized razors out there too.

Enjoy it!
