Martin de Candre typically graces us with a new sent once every two to four years, but they have outdone themselves with two new scents! Today, I went on their website to purchase a new bowl of their original which for me is still my number 3 all time favorite soap. While there I noticed that they now sell an Absinthe and Magellan soap! Now I need to decide if I need two soaps or three! Luckily they sell both in the smaller sizes, so I can give them a try at a lower price point. Let us know if you've tried them already, I'd be intersted to know anyone else's thoughts.

Descriptions are below!

Description: "Magellan shaving soap sails the spice route , priceless wonders of Indonesia . Its scent is powerful and warm with camphorous nuances . You will find the sunny freshness of Thyme , followed by the spicy warmth of Clove and the vanilla sweetness of Cinnamon . Your shaving foam will be a treasure of enveloping and exotic scents with a herbaceous touch ... With Magellan , treat yourself to a unique olfactory journey."

Description: "The Absinthe shaving soap reveals a scent of aniseed freshness , slightly minty . You will be seduced by its icy and energizing color which enhances the aromatic flavor of Star anise , Fennel and Green Anise. The creamy foam of your shaving soap deliciously infused with this energizing, subtle and herbaceous scent . Like the Belle Époque drink , this Absinthe shaving soap takes on the green notes and delicate bitterness of this astonishing spirit."

HMM, I may have to get one of these. Based on the descriptions I think the Absinthe one would be too similar to the typical Anise based scents (like that one you @Luecke3262 helped me aquire) to warrant a blind buy. But that Megellan one sounds like it would be interesting and unique, possible like one made by JabonMan many many years ago that I like so much. Between the new MdC scents and the upcomming 80th anniversary SV I must make a choice to expand my library of soaps.

Magellan sounds like it's right up my olfactory alley. Given the performance and longevity that MdC is famous for, I look forward to acquiring some of my own.

Nice. headed to check those out now...

For what it's worth - I still have 2 tubs of MdC - in the large glass jars (though less than 1/2 full) - one Fougere, one Original - and the Original was sent to me by a kind French member at cost on another forum before it was available state side.
I asked him if there was anything I could send him in return - anything he wanted from here that he couldn't get in France - and he simply replied "no - thank you".

I suppose the lesson here is good call on the smaller size. It'll likely last 6 months of everyday use.

The original, that I bought in the original glass tub, is probably the only shave related sale that I regretted almost immediately after I sold it. I loved the scent of it, but I think I let it go because it wasn’t getting much use with all the new artisans that were coming onto the scene. I miss that scent, and wish it was still in my den.

Ah - now that you bring it up - so - I am not trying to stir up trouble - BUT - I also have an MdC Original in the newer plastic jar - also full size.
The strength of the scent - in the glass jar - from France - absolutely crushes that from the newer plastic jar - despite it being a good 12 years older.
Performance-wise - no difference that I can tell - but I've wondered if they don't alter their formula a bit for French vs Worldwide distribution. If I ever get to France I hope to find out.
