My End Game Slant - The Krect

I have struck gold, reached the motherland, found the last box of Twinkies on earth. I haven't been a huge fan of slant razors...until now.

Gentleman...meet the Krect Slant.

This isn't the most readily available slant out there, but it isn't super rare, or even expensive for that matter. There are several different models as I understand. @gvw755 has done some extensive research on the razor and posted about it on another forum. Not sure about rules to links to other sites so I'll refrain from posting it. Maybe he'd like to chime in.

The entire design is very unique. The plates are much thinner than you may be used to when talking about slants. The blade gaps are tighter which allows for a very smooth shave. I personally use a Feather blade with it.

As you've probably noticed this particular model has a lug/hook mech that holds the handle to the head. It's pretty intuitive despite looking quite strange. For the most part, I do enjoy that about the razor. However, my only gripe is when unloading a blade for rinse or replacement, it's not the smoothest process. The blade will tend to stick to the bottom plate without any good way to grab the blade. I usually just scootch the blade off with the handle.

This razor is amazing. Not sure it would be for those preferring a more aggressive slant. I'm a huge fan of mild/smooth razors and this without a doubt is my new favorite razor. I even got replated in platinum.

Really cool! Not seen that one before!

Is the hook mechanism pretty stable? No risk of it coming undone during a shave?

Quick search shows 1 for $70 and 1 for $100. Not real expensive but not cheap either. I've had some slants but have gifted them. Never had any issues with any myself but some say they are aggressive..........

That’s super cool. I love razors that aren’t like all the others, and slants are certainly out of the box to begin with. I’ve seen that handle before, orphaned in an eBay lot of mixed razors and parts...now I wonder if the rest of the razor was in the pile and they just never figured out how to put it together.

Yes it is stable. Without a blade in it, I was worried that it wasn't safe. However, once a blade is in and closed it is very secure.

It's very possible. I actually bought this razor in a large lot and from the pics I thought it was a Christy or some variant. When it arrived and I realized it was a DE slant, I was intrigued. It took me a few seconds, but then realized just "breaking" the handle off from the head is how you opened it. If you ever come across one, shave with it! lol

Another thing to consider is some of these do in fact have a regular twist/thread mechanism. Also, some of them are zamac, either in full, or just the head.

That is a really cool razor. Slants are one form of DE i haven't tried yet. I will have to keep my eyes open for one of those for sure.

I'm going to wait until Dave buys one to try and then resells it in a week for $50.

Love that handle design, very cool and new to me too.

Slants, I'm a bit dyslexic, and tend to shave on a slant with a regular DE anyway, I think the extra twist of the blade like that would do my head in, too many angles.

I've never liked slants, because all I"ve tried have been too aggressive. But it's been years.... I guess I should revisit the ones I have, but that one looks really interesting. I do love mild razors.

The Krect is one of my favorite razors - slant or otherwise. It was one of the few slant razors produced in the US as Gillette convinced everyone that you don't need a slant, you just need to learn the Gillette slide, which is okay, but very boring especially when you see the interesting slant designs produced over the years. They were made in the 1930s - 50s(?) by the Krect Co. in Portland, OR. Apparently there were three major versions from Krect. @Techichi has an earlier version with the hook latch design. I have the later version which was a conventional three piece. There is a very rare push button version wich is similar in design to Techichi's one, but the hook is released by pushing a button on the bottom of the handle. I am not sure, but I believe that the push button also allowed the head to tilt at different angles similar to a diagonal slant. I am believing the earlier versions were made of brass because Techichi replated his razor and it came out really nice looking. The three piece version had zamak heads and plating was very inconsistent. My first one had plating so bad that I had to send the head over to North Shore Razors for a basic guncote just to prevent it from decomposing. My second one is in better condition.

The head is very thin for a slant, which is an amazing feat considering many other slants have much thicker heads. This is one of the smoothest shaving razors I own and a very efficient one.

If the handle on the original Krect looks familiar, it is the same basic design that Striling is using for their long awaited (and delayed) razor.

These go by several different names. Kant-Rust, Club, Hospital are the only ones I can remember at the moment. The Club has "Club" on the top plate and I believe the Hospital has a logo of some kind on the top plate. So that might be a Kant-Rust. Funny how the Krect also has this handle.

Super interesting! It's amazing actually how many different types and styles of razors were/are out there once you get passed everything else!

So I'm assuming they are the same with different names but all shave the same? This looks like a non slant but for $20 thought worth it for the handle alone......

The razors I mentioned all look identical, however, I have only shaved with one of them (can't remember which one it was). It was mild from what I remember.
