Let me introduce myself

Hey everyone I am Doug Layne from Adopted Acres Soap Co. We are located in Ashville, Ohio. We’ve officially been in business for just over a year now and have hit the ground running hard and fast. We have been blessed that community as a whole has taking a liking to us and we are grateful for that. I’ve been a traditional wet shaver for a little over 4 years now. My sharpening business is what led me to this hobby. I’ll get into that at another time 😂.
Me and my wife Cara have 6 kids. All are adopted and all have special needs of some kind. 3 are are from Ukraine , 1 from Serbia, and 2 domestically. The disabilities range from cognitive delays, to autism, and the most severe is my daughter in a wheelchair with Cerebral Palsy. The kids are very active in the company and love to help package all the orders. The help ranges from actual packaging with our older ones , to writing thank you cards. If you get one that’s says packed by Donna, well it was probably me who packed it with her help. She just enjoys learning to write her name as she is 5. Our long term goal is to employ our children in some capacity. Even things go beyond that we would love to employ others with special needs as this is where me and my wife feel our life’s calling is. Feel free to ask any questions. We are an open book. I’m still trying to figure out this forum thing as I’ve been on Facebook and Instagram since their inception and that’s how I typically reach out for adopted acres. So bare with me as I learn this platform.

Welcome! Glad to see another new artisan and soap retailer. I would be glad to give your stuff a browse!

And Ohio? That's interesting, another independent brand I used to shop when I had a beard is up there. Seems like all the good stuff is coming from up north!

Hi Doug, Welcome to The Cadre! It's great to have another artisan maker here.

That's awesome. I dated a girl in HS/College whose family had adopted and cared for several special needs children over the years. I got to know some of them while we dated and understand the challenges involved. I also know what kind of person/family it takes to have enough kindness, selflessness, and love in their hearts to take that on. I applaud you and your family and wish you all the happiness in life and success in your business!

I understand that FB is a bit easier than the forum at first, but you'll learn the tricks in a short time, with practice. Once you do, you'll find the tools on the forum to be pretty powerful and you can do a lot more than you can on FB. I've been using forums for various hobbies for over 25 years. It's sad to see some forums closing as people shift over to FB and other platforms because they offer instant gratification rather than depth and character.

You'll find that The Cadre is a very close community of folks. Many of us have bonded over the years and have become great friends. We've had some in person meet-ups, and we have regular zoom calls where we get together to chat about anything and everything! Hope to see you at one soon!

Should you need any assistance in navigating the site or help with posts please contact any of our friendly Concierge Staff: @Spider , @NurseDave , @heysi , @Fenster

God bless you, Doug for your adoptions and your commitment to family. I am on a no buy journey this year, but you may make me break my streak.

Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words and willingness to help on the forum. I’ve been making a conscious effort to try and get to know mh way around. I think I’m starting to get the hang of it.

Oooh.... G'day 🥃
