Hello,

@GearNoir told me to post here, so here goes.

The name's Fred and I'm a 43 year old Norwegian who happens to live in Sweden.

I've been wet shaving for the last 5 years or so. The story begins even much earlier than that, with a straight razor incident that left me scarred. Metaphorically scarred, not literally. After said incident I went back to the horrible multi-blade carts for many years, though at least I'd left behind canned goop and started using some proper soaps. The lure of shaving like the old days was still beckoning me, and I went back to it, this time with a DE razor. Specifically, a Merkur 34C. From there on, there have been more razors, more soaps, more everything.

I settled on a routine, and looking back, I didn't really enjoy it. It was what it was; routine. The razor was always a Rockwell 6S, plate #4 and a Feather blade. It was always the Wee Scot shaving brush, and a face lather. I did use a couple of different soaps though.

So, this year I accidentally grew a beard. Yep, that happened. I was feeling lazy and I'd never had a beard before, so why not. The problem was, that I didn't trim it, or take care of the beard either. After roughly 5 months of this, I'd had enough and I went to the local barber. He. Was. Horrified. But he did pretty well hiding it, I have to admit. I asked if he thought I should just trim the beard and keep it, he asked if I'd take better care of the beard. I said no to that, and the beard went. I've kept a circle beard though, like I had before I went full cave-man.

Now, a good chunk of $$ later, I'm getting back to enjoying new scents, learning new things (I had no idea Stirling was available in Europe "suddenly") and generally having some enjoyable shaves with a new razor (Lupo .95). I'm also keeping my eye on that Blackland Era razor. The AD's never stop.

Other facts about me that you probably don't want to know, or care about:
* I'm a sucker for artisan soaps and AS (fruity/citrus/spicy is my jam)
* I'm a bit of a menthol-head
* We have two cats
* I have a very inappropriate sense of humour

Happy to be here, and I look forward to getting to know you all. If I can stay, obviously.

- Fred

Welcome Fred! Glad to learn more about you…and that you pulled yourself back out of the “routine” phase! There’s so many wonderful options now than there was even 10 years ago, it’s great and there’s plenty to keep the interest alive!

Welcome to The Cadre!!! Great to see you here.

Have you tried the soaps from The Swedish Witch?
