Shave Newbie
Hey all, wanted to get your views on this article that lists alternatives to shaving soap/creams. It suggests things like hair conditioner and baby oil. What are your thoughts?

Interestingly enough, we did a challenge on this very topic not too long ago! I used bar soap with pretty good success. Dish soap was not so good.

Who wrote that??? Ugh. Lost me at the first sentence.... “So you’ve run out of shaving cream and haven’t had the time to buy a new bottle yet.”
Bottle? Since when does shaving cream come in a bottle?
And the whole thing just looks like it’s a thinly disguised advertisement for the water razor.

To the point though. Yes, as Rich mentioned we have done shave substitutes here before in our stunt shave series. You can shave with a lot of different things and still get a good shave. From my experience, the best thing on that list is hair conditioner. I used to shave in the shower, before I learned DE, and hair conditioner works great.

But I’m with Dave on the honey thing. Whoever suggested honey, has never actually tried shaving with honey.

I wonder who wrote this article? To me looks like an example of someone who "found it" but probably wrote it.... and now is trying to find a way to get clicks on content. But I could be wrong.

I can't see the link to the article. But before I learned I had been shaving wrong for decades, I used to shave in the shower. After putting shampoo on my hair I would lather my face with it, then use a cart & shave in under 30 seconds. But, as I said earlier, that was before I learned how wrong I was!

Hard pass. I am not the target audience for this article. Also, I have enough shaving gear built up in my den that I probably don't have to buy anything until around 2030 or so.
