Fromm Red Head 89

Shave Newbie
I just purchased a Fromm 89 Red Head 6/8 on a whim that is in excellent condition. Easily the best shave I've had since my son broke my dorko. Other than a fellow here who has a 6/8, I have only seen the 50s that are 5/8. Any of you experts have information on the razor?

Hi ZEDD! Welcome to the forum!

Very nice Fromm Red Head, I have owned several of these and they are nice shavers with very thin grinds. Everything I've ever learned about them is Otto Fromm was an exporter in Solingen, Much like S.R. Droescher who shipped out very good quality razors from many different Solingen workshops. Often times the Fromm Red Head and other models were listed with the name of the hardware store which the blade was being sold through. Fromm was likely importing from the early 1950's-1970's, but there is little info on them as an importer and even less(basically nothing) about the production shop (I'd say likely ERN or Tennis). It is obvious from some searches that the Fromm name was still in production or was up into the 2010's by Dovo and or Giesen & Forsthoff, Maybe both hard to say? It is very difficult to date and or give much further info due to the mass importation of razors from Solingen workshops after WWII. Many of these workshops were likely just trying to survive and would produce razors for many different distributors with no regard to their name.

Cheers, nice razor!

Matt

Appreciate all the courteous responses. Definitely a keeper and has been the sole blade I have been using since I purchased it. I have only had to strop it after 2 weeks. I was a little concerned because it took an edge incredibly fast but it seems to be holding up to my old man whiskers. Thanks again to all!
