Fine Accoutrements Soaps

Hard to believe there is no prior thread on these fine (no pun intended) shaving soaps. I have used one puck of their beautiful smelling Italian Citrus and the majority of a Santal Absolut one as well. They say these are made to order for Fine by De Vergulde Hand Soaps in the Netherlands. Regardless, their soap is IMO opinion a steal at $12.50 per puck as they have superb & strong scents and I have never received anything but an outstanding shave when using it. Some may quibble over post shave feel, but to me at least that's not why I buy soap. I buy a soap for performance first and secondly scent. I used the aforementioned Santal Absolut today with a Canadian pre-war Tech and a twice used Super Gillette Blue Blade and there was zero resistance. Perfect glide and only maybe five swirls with a damp YaQi "Mew Brown" synthetic brush to have enough lather for several passes.

P.S. Their AS's smell great and are strong as well as long lasting. (y)

Love their AS products for sure!

A lot of folks compare the soap lather to Tabac’s (which I think is one of the best as far as classic drug store soaps go, even beats out some artisans), do you feel that is an apt comparison?

It's been a couple of years since I've used a Fine product. Have they changed at all, better or worse? I remember the post shave being pretty not great, but the splash always made up for it.

I actually like Fine Accoutrements products. Not elite by any stretch but a very appropriate and good value for the money for their soaps or their splashes. I own Platinum, Santal absolute, and American Blend. Good stuff

I have a puck of the L'Orange Noir. But have yet try it. As I'm trying to use up the soaps in my current rotation first.

I read that you can get a lot of shaves out of a puck of Fine as it's a harder soap.

Also have the L'Orange Noir AS and like it a lot.

I have a tad of Tabac left and yes, they are very similar...................apart from the awful Tabac scent.

I think the word "elite" is overused regarding shaving soaps IMO. Since I am in south TX (tomorrow's heat index predicted to be 110F!!) I am used to sweating like a drug mule going through Customs and as a result post shave feel to me doesn't even register. YMMV.

I've heard lots of folks say that the Fine soap base was exactly the same as Tabac. To me, the only thing good about Tabac is the scent. I don't like the performance. So I've never had a desire to try Fine's soaps.
