Canned Creams and Gels

Generally, not a popular topic in these parts, but what canned creams or gels do you or did you use and what are your thoughts and experiences? For years I used Noxema in the white can and still keep that or a can of Barbasol Original on hand. I really like the warm stuff that comes out of the machine at the barbershop. Or any warm lather for that matter, but I could never find a canned cream or gel warmer that was worth a damn.

Since shaving the way I do now...the only canned goo that I found that was really worth a damn was Proraso...and yes, the type in the shaving cream can. Not saying it's the best...but it is way better than the other canned goo shaving creams. Recently I had to grab a tube of Cremo shaving cream. Not sure if this counts or not...but it is definitely not bad!

I have found that a can of Barbasol is serviceable in a pinch if you add some moisture to it. Almost no protection, but can get pretty slick.

When I first started shaving, my father was using Edge so that's what I got. Lasted about a year and then spent 8 years or so using Barbasol, both the original and aloe. Then discovered wet shaving 8 years ago and have been a convert since. There was a 6 month stint between June 2019 and March 2020 after moving to the burbs where I was doing my full wet shave after getting home from work and then doing a quick touch up shave around 5am with Barbasol in the shower because the commute dictated an extremely early wake up to snag a parking spot at the train station. Then Covid brought my old commute to a halt and it has yet to return so I get to enjoy a nice wet shave every morning after my workout now.

When doing quick overnight trips, especially carry on only, I'll bring the travel size Barbasol and use a TracII with no lubricating strip. I've found incorporating more water into the Barbasol really helps with slickness and I never have any issues at all. Perfectly DFS each and every time.

Barbasol is fine. Gets the job done, as does Gillette Foamy in a pinch. I won’t use anything like Edge, though. Foam yes, Goo no.

Same. Edge with the orange cap and and a Gillette Sensor was the start. That was the only thing I used until I got into the hobby. It has been a long time but I recall it being fair.
Yessir, orange cap and blue gel. I can still smell it. I remember my dad's razor being of the Sensor/Atra handle when I was younger but by the time I was shaving in the early 2000s he had "moved up" to a Schick Quattro which is what I started with and what he still uses to this day.
