I think however you need to distinguish Tallow vs Non Tallow as they act differently so in that case...

Tallow: CBL. Hands Down
Vegetal / Non Tallow: PannaCrema as of right now Sē'bŭm In process of re-throning

Yes, it certainly does dry my skin. But it is an outstanding shave soap, one the best, in my opinion. I simply use a post-shave balm or moisturizer when using MdC & my skin is fine. Post-shave is probably the least important factor to me in evaluating a shave soap. Lather, cushion, slickness, & residual slickness are what I'm looking for most in a soap base. Some soaps leave my face waxy or oily with their post-shave feel & I don't care for those. So I guess when post-shave feel is absent, or drying, that's OK because I can use a post-shave product to address the dryness. But when post-shave feel is an unnatural feeling, it's not OK. At least to me. I've written enough now that I've made myself clear as mud!!!

Sorry...can't stick to just one. But if I had to...it would be CBL Premium WITH Hemp Oil. It's really soft...but man that is a good soap base.

Behind that would be (in no particular order)

Lisa's Natural Herbal Creation in her newest Sheep Milk formulation
Wholly Kaw
Declaration Grooming Icarus Version (I haven't tried the Milk Steak version yet, though I just got a soap in with that base...so I will let you know)
I am probably missing something here...but I will revise when I think of it.
 
For myself, my favorite soap base is ETHOS. It doesn't matter if I am heavy handed that day, or if my technique is as sound as ever, that soap base always gives me a great irritation free shave.
