Baili 3 Piece

These Chinese razors are sold under a variety of numbers, e.g., BD176, BR171, etc., usually for under $10 and they are all the same head but with different handles only. The exception is that the earlier Baili 3 piece DE razor heads were narrower and did not cover the blade end tabs. As well, those purportedly shave more "aggressively". Regardless, don't write these off as Asian junk as although the heads are zamak and possibly some other "mystery" metal they actually shave very, very well. IMO these later ones shave just a frog hair less closely than a Gillette Tech, at least for my technique.

You can get one here for less than $5.00 (w/o shipping): Baili BR131 Double Edge Safety Razor DE

Let's face it in that many of us feel like we have "gamed" the system by buying an obscenely low priced safety razor that works and works well. No Wolfman waiting lists for this skinflint!! ;) 🕺

I bought a Ming Shi razor years ago that is a Merkur Futur clone. It was under $10, and is still one of my favorite razors. It shaved like a dream.

I had Baili some time ago, which I actually got from Groomatorium. I believe mine was the 171, though.

Is this link, for the 131, the thinner cap you speak of? Looks like it. I wonder how that compares to the Bakelite Tech plates, which are also thin.

I have the Baili TTO and it's fantastic for a $5 razor. I'd like to try the 3-piece at some point.

The Baili 171 (aka RR DE1) I consider to be the best Tech clone out there. It has a more efficient guard than the Tech and because it is cast, the thickness and weight of the base plate gives it a superior shave. It falls in between the triangle slot Tech and the later Techs in that it is a more efficient shave than the later Techs while being smoother than the traingle slot Tech. Besides, I kind of like the exotic rose gold finish of mine. Looks great when paired with a black handle.
