So I have this razor. It's a nice razor--a beautiful polished stainless steel Blackland Blackbird SB with a matching inkwell stand. When I bought it, I quickly realized it was way too much razor for my technique much like the new 1968 Shelby Cobra Mustang, that a guy I went to high school with had given to him by his parents, was for him. He took me for a ride one day to show it off and I still remember the exhilaration as he shifted through his gears going up Rheem Blvd. But I just knew that wouldn't end well and it didn't--he ended up totaling the car. When I first got this Blackbird, it ate me up with its blade exposure. It was never comfortable for me. I always experienced cuts and irritation. From time to time, it would come up in my informal rotation and I dreaded using it. It looked great sitting on my bathroom counter but not great in action. I pulled it out the other day, loaded up a Gillette Rubie and man, oh man. My last shave was very good and today, it was a BBS--one of the best shaves I have had. I wasn't thinking about chasing BBS and I didn't--3 passes with no clean up. Nice. Oh, and Mark, if you are out there somewhere, thanks for the ride. Too bad about the Cobra.
