Alpha Razor & Brush Thoughts

First shave today with the Alpha razor & brush. Initial impressions today, I'll be brief & do a more thorough write-up after a few shaves. Nice feel & finish. Balance in hand is also good. I really like the diagonal lines in the safety bar, a nice touch of style there! For the first shave I used a once used Polsilver SI blade. I went with a shallow angle on the right side of my face & a steep angle on the left. Both angles generated a good amount of audible feedback. There is definitely some blade feel with this razor, but it's pleasant, I'm not knocking it at all. Overall a very good first shave with both shallow & steep angles producing excellent shaves. Having the blade tabs covered are a nice feature & I don't find the extra width a deterrent. This is an efficient razor that produced a very nice shave with my usual 2 passes.

The brush was a real pleasure to use. I like the weight, not too heavy. It's compact & fits nicely in my hand. The knot, wow! It's my first time using the G4 knot & I'm impressed. It is dense with a good amount of backbone. It takes pressure to get it to splay. The tips are soft & pillowy. It was a treat using the brush. I predict this knot is going to end up in a lot of dens.

Great review. [emoji106]

I have a number of Alpha G4 brushes and it’s quickly become one of my favourite knots.,

Does the razor have the original plate or the new, milder, version?

I never really cared for their brush handle designs. To me, that fat version of the 400 is ugly.

Purchased this 5 months ago directly from Alpha Shaving in Hong Kong. Outlaw aluminum military green creocoted finish 28 mm silvertip. Performs very well even in hard water. I see they have added a lot of new handles since I bought mine.

Thank you. The plate is the original, not the milder new version.

I used it again today. Second shave quite enjoyable. More blade feel than I personally like, but not harsh. The brush provided another stellar performance!

I cannot say enough good things about the G4 knot. It was supposed to be FS answer to the Muhle Silvertip Fiber which was Muhle's answer to a silvertip badger and the G4 turned out closer to a real silvertip badger than all the other attempts by Muhle, Simpson, and Omega. The Alpha handles look great, and I am sure they are comfortable to use, but after giving away all my spare brushes, I suddenly have more (I think my brushes are breeding behind my back).

As for the Outlaw itself, that is another story. I bought the Executive Shaving version and shaved with it a couple of times before selling it. Great looking razor and extremely well built, but the head design just did not support the blade properly and so there is a lot of blade chatter. Not serious enough to get a bad shave, but very noisy and not as efficient as it should be for a razor at that price. @dmshaver, is this the pass around from DFS? I hope so.

Yes, this is from the DFS pass around. Thanks for pointing out the lack of proper blade support - that helps explain the loud feedback & blade feel. And after two shaves, it is close shaving, but it takes a lot of work to get a good smooth shave. To your point, it isn't as efficient as I thought it would be. Close shaving may be the wrong term, it has a lot of blade feel & led me to think it is efficient.
