A Cadre Affirmation

Well, 2020 made it's mark, and I am sure I speak for all us when I say that we are glad 2020 is gone. We now have 2021 to look forward to and we have many new challenges and rewards. I would be lying if I said that everything will be alright. I have my reservations about what the new year brings us. But we are here, we are able to hug our loved ones, we are able to view the sunrise and laugh and sing and be happy if we so choose.

So, no resolutions for me. No promises made. But I have an affirmation. I posted this a couple years ago, and I guess I forgot to post it last year. But below is beautiful affirmation for the Cadre.

I hope and pray that 2021 brings us all peace and stillness in this noisy world!

We are on the doorstep to a new year and therefore, a new chapter in our lives. The Cadre has been a constant rock over the past 10 months since I joined and has provided me a place where I can discuss, praise, complain, and boast. This is a wonderful place.

A few months ago I came across a poem/affirmation and have made it part of my life. It made such an impact on me that I read it almost daily now. And while I understand that reading this does not give me any more strength in life that I already posses. It does reaffirm who I am, that I have a place in this world, and that no matter how great or small my actions are, they change the world...at least in some small way.

So while we venture into this new year with uncertainty of it's outcome, I want to share this "blessing" with you.

Desiderata by Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
