12 Blades You Need To Try (at least once!)

Good list, Gillette Silver Blue, Polsilver, and Rapira Platinum Lux are definitely at the top of my list.

That's a good list lets see how it breaks down:

--Have/Tried--
Feather
Gillette Silver Blue
Nacet <--Favorite
Astra SP
Voshkod
Wilkinson Sword (Germany or India)
Personna (Israeli) Red

--Need to try--
Polsilver
Personna Lab
Lord Platinum
Rapira Platinum Lux
King C. Gillette

I've used all of them except Personna Red. I don't know that I found a huge difference between them but it has been some time since I have used most of them, and I am FAR from qualified to evaluate the intricacies of individual brands/blades. Of the ones on the list, the ones I used most were GSB, Personna Lab (not significantly different from the bulk generic Personna), Wilkinsons Sword and the new King C. Gillette.

I recall @CVargo doing a very thorough examination of a huge variety of blades about 2 yrs ago. I forget what the punchline was but I do recall him giving a good bit of background information on each blade ...and that many if not all of the blades that utilized a color in there name or packaging were in fact the same blade and the color was effectively a geographic marketing tool (Russians like the "green" while Canada likes the "yellow" etc.)

You don't happen to have a link to that post? I must have missed it.
Did you forget how the search function works?

I've used most of these, but really I hated trying new blades because a lot of the time I couldn't tell one from another. Blade choice is the least important variable to my shaves. I've settled on Feather and Personna as my favorites.

I think you and I are the same in this regard. Aside from an obvious "bad" blade (SHARK...I'm looking at you) I find it difficult to tell such a difference between brands that I truly favor one over another. Personna is always a good go-to for me, but so are GSB, Polsilver, VOkshod and Wilkinsons Sword. I think (my perception) that the Feather DE blade goes dull on me faster but is pretty good while its on its game.

On a slightly different topic, I have found the FROMM blades (hair shaper?) in the Weck Sextoblade feel MUCH sharper than the Diane blades. But at about twice the price of Diane blades I don't feel the FROMM are necessary.

I think someone should offer a Super Sample Pack of 10-20 of the top blades. To my list of 12, I would add Kai and Perma-Sharp.
This would be a great help to all...especially to those gents new to wet shaving. I wish I had this list 8 months ago when I started!

Gillette Rubie and Wizamet are some more.
Overall Nacet is probably my top spot blade. I can tell differences, but they are admittedly pretty subtle.I wouldn't submit to a blind test that's for sure.

I've tried all of them except possibly Lord Platinum and I think I tried it a long time ago.
Like many of you, I use different razors and blades. For me ,I've found that I might like a blade in one razor but not in a different razor.

If it’s a Gillette and made in St Petersburg, I have found it to be a quality blade:
Faves (have in bulk):
Polsilver
Nacets
Astra SP
GSB
PermaSharp

Like as well, just don’t have lots of:
Sputnik
7’Oclock Blues (discontinued)
Wizamets
7’OClock Greens

I’d buy any of these at at decent price. For a few of them, that is rarer these days.

I have tried most all on the original post. I’d also add Sharp Star from Rapira as one to try if you find them.

Thanks. I definitely missed a few (like Kai, Perma-Sharp, 7 O'Clock, etc.) that should be added to the list!

I have tried most of them. I have a few favorites. Probably GSB, Polisilver, and 7 O'Clock Blacks. There are a couple that my face just didn't get along with. Feather being the worst one, I usually get about 3 shaves, then it pulls. Some others may last 5-6, but I can get 8-12 good shaves out of my favorites.

I haven’t started testing the endurance of each blade yet. Right now I’m just figuring out which blades I like best. Luckily, most are pretty cheap, so that’s not something I’m that concerned about. It’s like when I was reaseaching dog breeds. Several books mentioned the annual cost of food for each breed. But, since I wasn’t planning on getting a St Bernard or Great Dane, I didn’t really pay attention.

Favorite blades? Err...let me check...oh my...I'm running low!

I like Feathers (used them exclusively for a couple of years starting out), but I find Russian steel to be a tad more comfortable. DE blades are inexpensive and generally get swapped out after 3 or sometimes 4 shaves.

Apologies to @woodpusher. This spreadsheet doesn't have multiple tabs. 🤣
